Updates about Karen's Condition - February 2000
- January 31 - February 6 - Karen is still restricted on out-of-
bed time because she hasn't yet healed. She asks that you keep praying for healing and
she wants to thank nurse Mary who has been coming by to take care of her sore.
Karen got out this weekend to see both Amanda's and Morgan's basketball games, did some
shopping, went to church and enjoyed a Sunday brunch. She wants everyone to know that
she hasn't been sending emails since her surgery and she'll start
writing again as soon as she's able, but in the mean time she hopes that you'll keep
sending your emails because she loves hearing from everyone. Tim and Karen are looking to
hire a personal assistant to help Karen on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings from
about 7:15 am to 12:30 pm. It will require helping Karen with her catheter, bathing, and
other household work. If you are interested, please call or email Tim or Karen.
- February 7 - 13 - Karen went and saw her main doctor, Dr.
Volshtein, on Monday and the doctor was not very happy to see how Karen's sore looked. So
now a special wound nurse is coming to Karen's house for care of her leg sore and Karen
has to spend even more time in bed working on healing. There are new pictures of Karen
at the top of the web page: one of her in her wheelchair getting into her new van, and one
of her with her class when she visited Twillman. The pictures rotate every 10 seconds so
you can view them all.
- February 14 - 20 - Karen had 2 doctor visits this week and during one of them, tested the "Easy
Glider" standing machine which would strengthen her bones and exercise her
cardiovascular system. She is looking at 2 different machines and will be
deciding soon which one she will get.
She continues to spend most of her day in bed trying to get that sore healed.
She will be visiting her doctor weekly for the next couple of months until
it is healed. She requests your prayers for a speedy healing process.
On Saturday, she and Tim attended Father Dan's fund raiser in Clayton and
enjoyed seeing many of her college friends.
She enjoys the messages being sent to encourage and keep her up to date on
what is going on in the outside world so keep those e-mails coming.
- February 21 - 27 Karen's sore is starting to look better (her
doctor agreed on Thursday), but she still has to spend most of her days in bed. However,
they have devised a way for her to sit so that she's not putting pressure on her sore when
she is up and about in the evenings. She got out on Sunday and did some shopping and went
to a neighborhood pool meeting. She has another doctor appointment tomorrow (Monday) and
is hoping for more good news about her sore and her back.
