About Karen Weir
Karen Weir is and has always been a pillar of strength for her family
and friends. We all find ourselves searching for something to get
through this time because in such a critical situation we would turn to
Karen for guidance, support and the optimistic view to get through such
a tragedy.
But since she is the victim, we find ourselves searching to cope
through her eyes, and how we think she would lead us.
Karen is wife and mother of 3 beautiful girls, 11, 10 and 1. She plays
the role of daughter, sister, niece, aunt, cousin, neighbor, friend,
and role model to many people who love her.
What makes her such a special person is her career as an elementary
school teacher. For over 10 years she has touched the lives of
children, leading them in the right direction in society.
Her passion is helping children. Karen won the Missouri Council for
American Private Education (MOCAPE) teacher of the year award in 1995
while teaching 3rd grade at St. Ann Elementary School. In addition, she
received the Emerson Electric "Crystal Apple Award" which recognizes teachers
of extraordinary achievement. This year she began teaching 2nd grade at Twillman
Elementary where she has influenced students and teachers alike.
In addition to her career as a teacher, Karen is a Brownie/Girl Scout
leader, soccer mom, softball mom, PSR teacher and more because of her
dedication to her children and kids in general. She has a special faith
in God and attends St. Monica's Church in Creve Coeur.
Karen is a graduate of Horton Watkins Ladue Senior High School and
received her BS in Education from Southwest Missouri State University.
She loves her flower gardens, wants the Cardinals and Blues to win, and
most importantly enjoys when someone else does the cooking.
We are grateful to be able to tell this beautiful story about Karen
since she is still here with us. Your prayers are welcome and
appreciated.
We thank God for our pillar of strength!

A Prayer for Karen
Most gracious heavenly Father,
We thank You and praise You for all Your many blessings.
We are grateful for the watch and care You provided Karen during her most recent surgery and
pray Your continued care for her needs.
We pray that You would grant her strength and comfort during this time of healing.
We are reminded each day of the fragility of life and thank You for the pleasure of being able to
assist and encourage Karen in her daily activities.
We know that all things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to
His purpose, and see evidence of this promise each day.
We are especially thankful for the knowledge that You hear and answer our prayers.
Thank you, Lord.
Amen

Updates about Karen's Condition
- July 31 - August 1 - Sorry, no update this week.
- August 6 - August 12 - Karen has been hindered for the last couple
of weeks by a problem with her thyroid. Her doctors are working to get her back on kilter
(i.e. not so tired all of the time) with new medication. This has not set her back, but it
has prevented her from making forward progress. She is still getting out as much as possible
and had a great time at her 20 year High School reunion.
- August 13 - 19 - Sorry, no update this week.
- August 20 - 26 - Karen's doctors seem to have her thyroid problem
under control so she is pretty much back to her old self. She is getting out for fun, working
in the basement again, and getting the girls whipped into shape and ready for school. She
also continues to make progress with her physical and occupational therapy exercises.
- August 27 - September 1 - Sorry, no update this week.
- September 2 - 8 - Karen continues to make improvements in her
level of rehabilitation (i.e. she's almost back to doing transfers and everything else for
herself) and should be back to her old level of independence very soon. She's also getting
out a lot -- even for a short trip to Chicago to visit her sister Jill! She's staying
busy now by trying to stay on top of the usual chaos that has started with the new school
year and soccer seasons, etc.
- October - Karen has been doing very well this month! She has
been active with the girls and their activities including soccer. She is going to go and
meet a counselor on November 8th to determine her ability to drive. Karen may soon be
out on the road again!
Karen's sister-in-law Amy passed away on October 19th after a battle with cancer. She
helped start this website and continued to maintain its content as long as she could. Amy
was an extremely special person to Karen and to all of us. She will be missed terribly.
- November - December - Karen had a good month in November
with nothing major to report. However, on Christmas night she was admitted to Barnes-Jewish
Hospital with gastro-intestinal problems. She has been getting better and hopefully will
get to go home soon.
- January - Karen is still in Barnes-Jewish Hospital :(.
