Updates about Karen's Condition - January 2000
- January 3 - 9 - Karen had to spend a few days of this week bed-ridden
because of complications (sores). She is back up and about today (1/9) and optimistic that the
coming week will be better and bring healing. Tim started his job Tuesday as scheduled and Barbara,
Karen's mom, has been coming to stay with her during the day and help around the house. Karen
will not be starting back up with therapy until after the brace comes off in a few months.
- January 10 - 16 - Karen is starting to heal but she still had to spend a
lot of time in bed this week. She did get out to have some fun at Barnes Occupational Therapy
Building where she participated in a theater project. Tim is liking his new job and he is able to
come home at lunch and see Karen (Mom is still staying with her during the day and helping).
Tim went on a fishing trip this weekend so Karen wants to thank her Mom, Dad, Sister Jill, Aunt
Mindy and friend Mary, all of whom pitched in this weekend to do Tim's many jobs around the house.
- January 17 - 23 - Karen's sores continue to heal but she still has to balance
her time between being up and about and staying in bed so she didn't get out much this past week. She
will be busy this coming week because she has to go see her doctor about her back, do some more work with
her theater project, and meet with a women's disability group.
- January 24 - 30 - Karen is still not completely healed and still
only able to spend about 4 hours/day out of bed. However, she did go to see her back doctor,
Dr. Riew, and he said that her x-rays look great and that her back is healing well and very
straight. She'll go see her regular doctor, Dr. Volshtein, next Monday (2/7) for details. The
rest of Karen's week was busy, filled with shopping and continued work with her theater
group. She's looking forward to the superbowl tonight and cheering on the Rams of course.
