Updates about Karen's Condition - July 2000
- June 26 - July 2 - Karen had another week of not so great news...
She had to go back into the hospital on Wednesday because she had a high fever. The doctors
ran a series of tests to find the source of the infection that was causing the fever,
but they haven't been able to pinpoint it just yet. However, they did discover that she
has a fractured leg bone, so now she is restricted from her standing frame for 6 weeks
until that heals. She also saw her plastic surgeon, who will do the surgery on the wound,
and he said she still can't be scheduled for surgery until the fevers and infections are
cleared up. She is out of the hospital now and hoping she feels well enough to enjoy the
4th of July fireworks.
- July 3 - 9 - Karen had a restful week of continued healing and
recuperation. She still has to take it easy because of her fractured femur (she can't even
do physical therapy right now) and up-time restrictions, but she has been well and did get
out to see some 4th of July fireworks and go shopping, as well as spend time at the
pool with the kids. She also saw her plastic surgeon this week and he gave her another
"wait 3 weeks and we'll see how it looks then" speech regarding her upcoming wound-mending
surgery, so there's still no news to report there.
- July 10 - 16 - No big news to report this week. Karen had another
restful week, as restful as it can be for the mother of 3 young active girls anyway. She got out and
about to visit some of her dad's friends, some family and for other assorted activities.
She will see her plastic surgeon this week so she asks for your prayers that she'll receive
good news about the upcoming surgery.
- July 17 - 23 - At the risk of sounding repetitive...This week
Karen's doctor gave another command performance of his now famous speech entitled "Let's
wait another 3 weeks and see how things look then". Meaning of course that there is still
no date for Karen's upcoming surgery. However, on the bright side, Karen is spending less
time in bed and more time up and enjoying life, despite her restrictions (and she even told
her doctor so). She's spending time at some of the girls' activities, going out to dinner,
shopping and getting on with things.
- July 24 - 30 - Another average week for Karen the supermom. She
is still getting up and about taking care of business -- getting the kids pictures taken,
taking Elizabeth to the doctor for her yearly checkup, etc. But, she is balancing that with
staying in bed enough to get that stubborn sore healed. The sore is starting to look better
from the outside but her plastic surgeon (Dr. Three Weeks) says there is still not quite enough
flesh on the bone to successfully perform the surgery. Hopefully these next two weeks will
change that...
