Updates about Karen's Condition - July 1999
- July 1 - Karen will spend the afternoon today shopping at the Galleria and she's looking forward to a brief visit home this weekend! She'll get to spend Saturday afternoon home with her family after 2 long months away.
- July 2 - A usual day of therapy followed by Friday night girls night.
- July 3 - Home at last (for a little while)! K is coming home for the afternoon, but has to be back in the hospital by 5:00 or she turns into a pumpkin.
- July 4 - Quiet Holiday, back in the hospital.
- July 5 - An outing to the Esquire theatre to see "Wild Wild West".
- July 6 - Return to the hospital routine.
- July 7 - Karen was having a bit of a bad day today but as usual was trying her hardest to cope. On the upside, work was started on the house to get it ready for her return home as soon as the doctors say she is ready.
- July 8 - Karen had a much better night/day and was pleasantly surprised by a visit from an out of town friend. She will be returning to her usual therapy routine this afternoon.
- July 9 - Karen's brace got a new (more comfortable) lining today so she had to spend a lot of time lying still in bed waiting for that. The house renovations are going great.
- July 10 & 11 - Jill spent the night at the hospital on Saturday. Tim and the girls took Karen to lunch at an outside eatery. Karen really appreciates all of your emails, please keep them coming. She is sorry she can not respond personally yet.
- July 12 - Return to the hospital routine.
- July 13 - This week is official Recreational Therapy week so the RT people had a nice luncheon for all their clients and a group of girls from one of the local dance studios entertained with several dance numbers. Home renovations continue at a record pace thanks in large part to the capable hands and talents of John and his Dad.
- July 14 - More Recreational Therapy Week festivities kept Karen busy during the day. She is once again looking forward to a brief visit home this weekend to oversee all the home renovations.
- July 15 - Another outing! Today Karen went to the Science Center with the girls and they all watched the Omnimax movie "Alaska" while there.
- July 16 - A usual day of therapy and visiting with friends and family, then Friday night girls night. Amanda & Morgan read Karen her daily email messages, she loves all your notes and wants to especially thank Jill H., who knows what Karen is going through, for her message.
- July 17 & 18 - Karen had a great trip home this weekend and gave a big thumbs-up to all the on-going home improvements.
- July 19 - Back to the usual hospital routine. Tim took a "transfer lesson" today to learn how to help Karen move from chair to bed, etc.
- July 20 - Karen was moved to a new bigger room, Room 2206. She has also been taken off contact isolation orders so you no longer have to put on gloves and a gown when visiting.
- July 21
- July 22 - A usual day of therapy and visitors.
- July 23 - More hospital routine - Karen is working with all sorts of new gizmos to help her gain strength. She won't be going home this weekend so she's looking forward to your visits.
- July 24 - Karen is using a device which makes her stand upright - this helps increase her bone density. She also is now able to read her emails in her room because Tim has brought in his laptop. She's still not able to respond to all the emails yet, but maybe she will be soon.
- July 25 - Karen is overachieving in therapy and keeping her nurses on their toes! Unfortunately too hot for any outings this weekend. Be sure to read about the benefit tournament.
- July 26 - Karen got a new (blue) wheelchair today and they are working to make it fit her. She had a nice dinner with her dad. Karen wants to thank everyone for the cards and letters they've sent - she just got a fresh bundle of them today.
- July 27 - Karen has a release date a week from Friday (8/6)! She is getting along well in her new wheelchair - Amanda spent the night tonight.
