Updates about Karen's Condition - June 2000
- May 29 - June 4 - Karen is back in the hospital! She had another
bone scan on Friday and the doctors found two abcesses on her right leg (not the leg with
the wound) so she was readmitted and will have a procedure to drain the abcesses tomorrow
(Monday 6/5). No word yet on how long she will be in the hospital or when she will have
the surgery for the wound. On Tuesday she went to St. Ann's for a grade school graduation
ceremony, her old 3rd grade class was graduating so she went for the ceremony and they were
thrilled to see her.
- June 5 - 11 - Karen got to leave the hospital on Saturday but
she still has a couple of abcesses. It turns out that she had 3 abcesses, all on her right
leg. The doctors drained one of them but the other 2 were too small to drain so they are
just keeping a watchful eye on them and keeping Karen juiced up with antibiotics. She can't
be scheduled for her other surgery (the muscle flap procedure to seal her wound) until the
abcesses and infections clear up -- she'll see her plastic surgeon on Friday for details.
She'll get more test results this week and appreciates your prayers as always.
- June 12 - 18 - Karen had a busy week out and about...she saw the
plastic surgeon on Friday as planned and he said that she can't have the surgery on her sore
until there is more healing around the bone. He said it is looking better little by little,
but she'll have to wait another 3 weeks for another evaluation -- hopefully at that time he'll
give the go ahead for surgery. She also got out this week to do some shopping, go to church
and celebrate at a family birthday party.
- June 19 - 25 - Sorry! Technical difficulties prevented an update
this week.
