Updates about Karen's Condition - June 2001
- May 28 - June 3 - Karen is doing great! She continues to build
up the time that she is able to sit up and get up and about. She's taking advantage of her
uptime by going to the girls' soccer games, family functions, and downstairs to her new office.
Yes, downstairs! While she was hospitalized earlier this year, they had a lift installed so
Karen is able to go up and down the stairs now -- after two long years. She was a little
frightened by what she saw when she first went down there, but she has mobilized the troops
to get everything back in order and to get her new office laid out.
- June 4 - 10 - Karen's steady progress continues. She has been
staying busy during her out of bed time by continuing to work on the house (all those little
things that missed 'the mom' touch while she was in the hospital) and getting her garden
back in shape. She's also glad to have the girl's home from school now and enjoying their
company, and trying to keep them busy, during the day.
- June 11 - 17 - Not only is Karen progressing on her uptime, she
is also now working on her strength with physical and occupational therapists (they are
coming to the house for her workout). She obviously lost a lot of strength during her days
in bed so she is struggling a little bit with the therapy, but she is working hard and knows
that progress and positive results are right around the corner.
- June 18 - 24 - Another remarkable week of progress in the Weir
household. Karen's really doing well with her therapy and is becoming very independent in
her transfers from bed to chair, chair to shower, etc. She also continues to make great
strides in getting the house back in order, to her liking, and getting back into a regular
household routine.
