Updates about Karen's Condition - September 1999
- August 30 - September 5 - Another routine week of therapy and visitors in the hospital and Karen spent a couple of lunches at her now usual West End hang outs. She also got to go home for a visit on Sunday - this time Tim transported her in their regular family van, instead of a specially equipped van, so she's much more mobile. Still no word on her official and final release date from the hospital, check back for more details...
- September 6 - 12 - After a week of intensive therapy in the hospital and an outing the refurbished Chase Park Plaza, Karen was released on Friday to go back home for good. She is happy to be home and slowly but surely getting back into the swing of things. She will start outpatient therapy on 9/20 and will then be going to the hospital three days a week to continue with physical, occupational and speech therapy.
- September 13 - 19 - Karen picked up right where she left off and had a busy first week home. She was all over town attending soccer games and doing birthday shopping for the girls, then hosted Amanda's slumber party (with a little help from Tim and sister Jill) Saturday night. She's looking forward to, and ready to work hard in, therapy this week.
- September 20 - 26 - Karen had a tough first week back in therapy, but she is doing great and getting around well. She was able to get rid of her hoyer (the device they used to lift her from chair to bed and vice versa) because she can now scoot from bed to chair with just a little help -- and soon she'll be doing it all by herself. Karen really wants to thank her friends Alice, Robin, Linda, Carrie, Michelle, Eileen and Ann and her Aunt Mindy the gopher girl, for all the work they are doing in the house -- painting, tearing down old wallpaper, etc. More thank you's from Karen later this week...
- September 27 - October 3 - Karen had another week of progress in therapy. She is looking great (you may have seen the new picture of her at the top of the page) and getting around well, she hosted yet another slumber party and family birthday party this week. Tim is getting ready to order a specially equipped van so Karen can get around town much more easily and eventually even drive herself. Therapists: the long awaited thank you letters that Karen's Aunt Mindy wrote (with help from Karen) to recognize all the great staff at the Jewish rehab center can now be read in the Thank You section.
