From Mindy:
I went to see Karen participate in physical therapy today--a first for me.
I was running late and got to her 15 minutes after her therapy session was
supposed to begin. I zoom off the elevator and step into the hall and
there she is, slowly wheeling down the hallway from her room. My jaw
drops. She smiles. "They're late picking me up today. I have to get to
work. We're 15 minutes late. I couldn't wait for them any longer. Let's
go."
And off she went. She caught up with a fellow patient who praised her for
her initiative and cautioned her not to do too much "or your shoulders will
really hurt tonight..."
An OT therapist came to K's rescue and wheeled her to PT.
When her PT asked her how speech therapy was going, K told her it was
pretty boring cause they asked her meaningless questions. "If we're going
to work on my memory, let's study something I can use. Teach me parts of
my spine and body to memorize."
Her PT girl, Janna, said "O.K., let's start now. I'll work muscle groups
in your body, tell you the name, the function and how this will help
you--on your right side. And you tell me what I just taught you when we
work your LEFT side.
And they did.
